So, if you saw the Giants win over the Patriots during Super Bowl XLVI, you likely saw some commercials. Here's my list of the best and worst commercials to air during the Big Game. Find all the commercials here.
TOP TEN – The best of the best
1. M&M's "Just My Shell": Needs no explanation.
2. AUDI "Vampire Party": Depicts vampires more accurately than the Twilight saga movies. #SoLongVampires.
3. CHEVROLET "Happy Grad": Which would a graduate prefer more, a mini refrigerator or a yellow Chevy Camaro? Enough said.
4. SKECHERS "GO RUN Mr. Quiggly!": The dog is winner!
5. DORITOS: "Man's Best Friend": Mafia dog bribes his way into the top 5.
6. BUD LIGHT: "Rescue Dog": I don't drink beer, but this dog was adorable!
7. VOLKSWAGEN "The Dog Strikes Back": It could have done without the Star Wars/Darth Vader part though.
8. NBC "Vocal Kombat": Betty White strikes again!
9. ACURA "Transactions": I would love to have access to Jerry Seinfeld's network of Manhattan zip lines, but the jetpack flying squirrel suit looks cool, too.
10. E*TRADE "Fatherhood": The last 6 second before the plug are the best.
BOTTOM TEN – The worst of the worst. Each was a total waste of money.
1. H&M "David Beckham Bodywear": So maybe the Super Bowl draws more female viewers than any other NFL game, but come on! To show shots of the guy in his underwear like that, ummm... no thanks!
2. GODADDY.COM "Body Paint" and "The Cloud": GoDaddy may have made headlines with raunchy Super Bowl ads in past years, but their flip-flopping stance on Internet blacklist legislation (i.e. SOPA and PIPA) caused many to lose interest in the domain name registrar, with both their spots tying for number 2 on my worst list.
3. BUDWEISER "Return of the King" and "Eternal Optimism": Tying for third are Budweiser's End-of-Prohibition-themed commercials featuring people rushing to consume the beer, after it was announced that Prohibition was repealed. I couldn't wait until someone said "It's Over" to these commercials! Go back to the talking frogs next year, Bud!
4. SAMSUNG MOBILE USA "Thing Called Love": OMG, that phone has a stylus. Stylus-operated mobile devices might have been cool in 1997. News flash, Samsung. Your commercial may call it a "pen," but if it doesn't write on paper, it's not a pen, it's a stylus. Oh, and 1997 called, they want their stylus-operated mobile device back. And another thing, people who willingly queue up outside of a store would not say things like, "I can't believe I'm missing the game for this" or, "It feels like detention."
5. CHEVROLET "Stunt Anthem": A car, any car, is useless to you if it's falling out of an airplane, or jumping over a giant skateboard, or on a test track playing musical instruments as it passes. You're not going to buy a car because it can do those things! You likely won't be doing those things with the car anyway. The spot even starts with a "do not attempt" disclaimer.
6. CARS.COM "Confident You": Simply creepy.
7. TIME WARNER CABLE "Enjoy Better": Optimum may hold the title for worst commercial ever, but this one from TWC isn't much better.
8. FIAT "Seduction": At first I thought this was a commercial better suited for Telemundo, then I realized the woman was speaking Italian. Still, I didn't have a clue what she was saying. In fact, the only English she used was in the plug for the car. If you're going to use someone speaking a foreign language, at the very least use subtitles!
9. NFL "Fantasy Million Dollar Fan": One million dollars couldn't possibly buy all that bling. You'd need at least 250 million dollars.
10. PRUDENTIAL FINANCIAL "Day One - Linda Gutherie": This is a Super Bowl commercial? It was more like a "The Price Is Right" commercial.
HONORABLE MENTION
KIA "A Dream Car. For Real Life" : We all have dreams like this, right guys"?
BRIDGESTONE "Performance Basketball": I would love to see basketballs which are that quiet.
CHASE "Football": What can I say, the kid's a kicker!
COCA-COLA: Love those polar bears, plus Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
NFL "NFL Timeline": A 60-second history of football. Very nicely done.
DORITOS "Sling Baby": Babies are funny. Elderly people can be funny. Put them together against a teasing sibling? Very funny!
PEPSI "King's Court": Who else was reminded of the Soup Nazi when the king said, "No Pepsi for you"?
