A Series of Elevated Rail Lines

"A Series of Elevated Rail Lines" is a track diagram of the Chicago 'L' system. The project was inspired by Andrew Godwin's similar project involving London's rail network (specifically the Underground, Overground, and Docklands Light Rail networks), and my own work diagramming the New York City subway.

These projects were created with an automatic tool (written in Python) which takes a textual description of the network and automatically draws the lines, platforms, and labels.

The project took 7 days to get all the stations in place (involving over 4,700 lines of input), and a weekend to polish it for the first release. Even so, it is still a work in progress, so check back regularly for further updates.

Update [1]: Version 0.9.1a has been released. See the Version History for further details on what's new.

This is a really cool project! Any chance there will be one of these maps of the DC Metro?
